Gastric Balloon

A gastric balloon is a non-surgical, temporary weight-loss device placed in the stomach to reduce food intake by taking up space.

A gastric balloon is a soft, silicone balloon that is placed inside your stomach through a simple endoscopic procedure — no surgery or incisions needed. Once in place, it is filled with saline so it takes up space in your stomach, helping you feel full sooner and eat smaller portions. The balloon stays in for about six months and is then removed, giving you a head start on weight loss while you build healthier habits.

An intragastric balloon is a space-occupying device inserted endoscopically into the stomach and inflated with 400–700 mL of saline. It induces early satiety and delayed gastric emptying, leading to reduced caloric intake. Clinical trials report a mean total body weight loss of 10–15% over 6 months, with efficacy enhanced when combined with a structured diet, exercise, and behavioural modification programme.
